Upakar Foundation awards up to 20 four-year renewable scholarships (totaling $40,000) to Indian-American students to help them realize their college dreams. These scholarships acknowledge academic excellence and consider financial need.

 

Please join us to recognize and celebrate the 15 years of giving scholarships by Upakar Foundation.  Upakar Foundation is the largest Indian American Scholarship organization and has sponsored almost $600,000 in scholarships for 70+ scholars.

Ticket purchase Tickets:  $50 per person, $25 for children under 10.  Free for children 4 and under. Cash bar will be available.


Main program will be from 12:30pm to 1:30pm and will include a special performance by SAPAN, the South Asian Performing Arts Network.



Featured speaker
Neera Tanden, President, Center for American Progress and Counselor to the Center for American Progress Action Fund.  She served in both the Obama and Clinton administrations. She was named one of the “Most Influential Women in Washington” by National Journal and received the India Abroad Publisher’s Award for Excellence in 2011. She was in Elle magazine’s “Women in Washington Power List” and Fortune magazine’s “Most Powerful Women in Politics.” She received her bachelor of science from UCLA and her law degree from Yale Law School.


Introduction
Shekar Narasimhan, founding board members of Upakar Foundation and the Managing Partner at Beekman Advisors.  In 2014, he was appointed Commissioner on President Obama's Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders.


Master of Ceremonies
Bindhu Pamarthi is a third year J.D. candidate at Georgetown University Law Center. Bindhu was crowned the 60th Miss District of Columbia in 2013 and represented the nation's capital at the Miss America pageant last year.

Ajay K. Ojha, PhD currently works as a consultant for the federal government in Washington, DC primarily assisting the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security with Program Management and Strategic Communications.

Parking will be available at the restaurant and is Metro Accessible (Red Line - Friendship Heights).

Donations to Upakar Foundation's scholarship fund are most welcome.
